GINGER COOKIES

1 c. butter or margarine
1 egg, well beaten
1/4 c. warm water
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. ginger
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. molasses
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1 tsp. lemon flavoring
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening with sugar. Add egg. Beat until thoroughly blended. Combine baking soda, and water. Add molasses and liquid to first mixture. Beat thoroughly. Add flavorings, mix thoroughly. Sift flour, measure and sift with salt and ginger. Add to first mixture, a little at a time, beating well after each addition. Chill. Form dough in small balls. Place on well-oiled sheet. Press with fork. Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees until brown.
